Marvel Studios has recently lost one of its most significant executives and producers, Victoria Alonso, who resigned on March 17. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Alonso, an Argentine producer who has been with the company since 2006, was involved in the production of several Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, starting with Iron Man. She was a co-producer on early MCU films such as Thor, Iron Man 2, and Captain America: The First Avenger, and has since served as an executive producer on all Marvel Studios’ films and television shows.
Alonso was promoted to executive vice-president of production in 2015, before being promoted again to president of physical, post-production, VFX, and animation in 2021. She oversaw Marvel’s post-production and visual effects work on films, series, and games. Apart from her work with Marvel, Alonso was also a producer on Argentina, 1985, which won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film and received an Oscar nomination in 2023.
According to a Variety report, Alonso’s sudden exit comes after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s poor performance at the box office. The film, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michelle Pfeiffer, received criticism from both fans and critics. Despite her sudden departure, Alonso is expected to be credited as a producer on Marvel Studios’ upcoming films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels, along with Disney+ series Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Echo, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Alonso’s exit from Marvel Studios marks the end of a 15-year-long tenure with the company, during which she contributed significantly to the success of the MCU. It remains to be seen how her departure will affect the future of Marvel Studios, especially with the upcoming release of several highly anticipated films and television shows.
